Fantastic Four's Ioan Gruffudd Wants to be an MCU Villain

Before he was Captain America, Chris Evans was the Human Torch in Fox's Fantastic Four. Now Evans' co-star Ioan Gruffudd (Mr. Fantastic) says that he's open to joining the MCU, but this time, as a villain.

Talking to Daily Mail, Gruffudd said he would love to join the MCU, but says that his history as Reed Richards might affect his chances. He says:

"I just don't know, in that universe, the Marvel world, would they let me play something else?... I'm sure for Marvel it was a tough decision to pick Chris [Evans] to play that part [Captain America] because he'd already played one superhero, but what a brilliant decision it was, because he's wonderful."

It's interesting he should say that since Marvel actually had to ask Evans three times to take on the role of Steve Rogers; he didn't even have to audition. It wasn't until he had a talk with Robert Downey Jr. that Evans eventually agreed to take the role.

As for Gruffudd, he thinks he would rather play a villain for the MCU:

"Maybe [I could play] a baddie, this time? Now that I've established myself as somebody who can do that, that would be great."

Granted Gruffudd had mostly been doing TV work after Fantastic Four, it would be great to see him onscreen again, even as someone else. Such a shame he won't be able to reunite with co-star Chris Evans since Evans is bowing out of the MCU after Avengers 4.

Avengers 4 comes out May 3, 2019.
