Fans Petition for R-Rated Theatrical Release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Just days following the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, all sorts of petitions have already been created by fans and detractors of the DC film.

Yesterday, two petitions surfaced asking Warner Bros. to remove Director Zack Snyder from the Justice League and even the entire DC Extended Universe. Now, another petition has popped up (via Comic Book), but this time it's fans asking for a theatrical release of the extended, R-rated version of Snyder's film.

As of this writing, the petition has 612 supporters, which is 388 signatures shy of reaching 1,000 supporters.

The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice "Ultimate Cut" runs 30 minutes longer than what is in theaters right now. It includes new sequences and reinserts that have been cut from the blockbuster film which grossed $166 million at the U.S. box office during opening weekend. Globally, the film, which is currently in its tenth day of release, earned $500 million.

Batman v Superman didn't exactly receive a warm welcome from critics, but the film is nevertheless being embraced by fans, apparently enough for its R-rated version to get a petition for a theatrical release.

Personally, I don't think Warner Bros. will make a limited theatrical release of the movie's Ultimate Cut on Blu-ray. The studio is clearly banking on the mystery created by the film's promotional materials. Batman v Superman has earned $500 million globally for now. That may increase tenfold once the movie's home media copies are released.
