Last week news broke out that Disney's live-action film adaptation of the 1998 animated feature Mulan would be ditching its musical roots and foregoing all of its iconic songs.
Fans have always loved the musical quality of the classic Disney films and a lot have memorized the lines of Mulan's fiery I'll Make A Man Out of You. However, speaking with Movie Fone back on Friday, the director of the Mulan live-action movie, Niki Caro revealed that the film wouldn't have any songs.
"Well I'm not going to contradict Sean (Bailey). His sensibility and mine for the material is right in sync. It's a big, girly martial arts epic. It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving," the director spoke about her approach on the film.
When asked about the absence of songs in the film, Caro replied:
"Yes, from what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children."
Caro's Children aren't the only ones horrified over the prospect of a song-less Mulan. Fans have shared their response to the news online, expressing shock, disappointment and rage over the update.
Of course it's understandable why fans have been crying foul online –Mulan's songs are beloved classics, and if Beauty and the Beast got itself its very own musical live-action adaption, then why can't Disney do the same for the warrior who took down the Huns? Let's hope Disney changes its mind. Fast.
Mulan is scheduled for release on November 2, 2018.
