The first trailer to DC Universe's Titans has officially been released and it looks like a bloody good time, emphasis on the bloody. Fans expecting something similar to the Teen Titans series from Cartoon Network or the original Marv Wolfman/George Perez run of comics are going to be surprised. It's a dark and gritty series, even if it tries too hard on a few occasions.
We start with a vision from Raven, who seemingly witnesses the murder of Dick Grayson's parents. She soon finds him in a police station and recognizes him instantly, which leads to some quick montages that feature Grayson as Robin. He might not be Nightwing but this version of the character doesn't need Batman, even saying "F*%k Batman" to prove how edgy he is after beating up some mooks.
From there we get some more bloody action from Hawk and Dove, some shots of Beast Boy pre-transformation and Starfire burning down some folk to protect herself. The trailer really wants you to know that this isn't your daddy's Teen Titans and it will be interesting to see how bloody each episode will be.
Does it look good? Well, it looks interesting. Raven will clearly play a big role and seems to be the show's central focus. Having an adult Robin looking out for her should be interesting, along with the other characters who have more undefined roles judging from the trailer.
Titans debuts in Fall 2018 and will be exclusive to the DC Universe streaming service.
