Yesterday we got the trailer drop for the animated Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge, but the trailer was so "clean" that some are wondering if the movie is going to be as violent as the games are known for. Fans can rest easy now, because game director Ed Boon has confirmed the rating for the upcoming MK movie.
He posted this up on Twitter:
While the movie did receive an R-rating, I'm still not expecting it to be as bloody as the video game. I mean, even all the other movies that Boon listed down were light romps compared to the violence we can expect from Mortal Kombat.
This is just my own take, but I always thought that the fatalities of the new games have gotten out of hand. The fatalities from the earlier games were funny because they were simple animations, but with the whole new level of realism we're getting from games today, it's just a whole new level of gratuitous.
Then again, I'm not against fatalities. I mean, I'm sure there are some people who love to see them, and they are a signature feature of the franchise. If anything, it adds to the campy, B-movie element of MK that I hope the live-action movie will embrace.
