EA Will Try to Make Future Games With Loot Boxes More Fun and Fair

Even though months have passed, there is still some heat on EA for their poor use of loot boxes and microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront 2. It seemed like the company had learned when they started releasing updates that would fix the game and make it more approachable for those that didn't want to spend money.

Some fans started thinking EA knew better now that they fell flat on their face. That doesn't seem to be the case, as the company has revealed that they still believe in loot boxes but will try utilizing them in less greedy ways.

During an earnings call this week (via Variety), EA CEO Andrew Wilson revealed that they will continue to push through with future games that will have loot boxes. However, they said that these will be used in a "transparent, fun, fair, and balanced way." Fans are hoping that they mean that since the company's reputation hasn't recovered from the Battlefront 2 controversy and it would be a shame if Anthem launched next year with similar problems.

"And so net-net, we're going to continue to push forward. We're always thinking about our players. We're always thinking about how to deliver these types of experiences in a transparent, fun, fair, and balanced way for our players. And we'll communicate with regulators around the world on it."

For those unaware, Star Wars Battlefront 2 was mired with controversy when it first came out. After players in the beta realized that the hero characters would take too long to unlock, which also lead to the most disliked Reddit comment in history, EA actually changed their policy and even temporarily removed in-game purchases when it launched.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available now. Here is hoping that Anthem launches with less problem.
