EA Head Regrets Star Wars Battlefront II Loot Box Controversy

Star Wars Battlefront II made headlines last year but not in the way EA and DICE wanted. Instead of being one of 2017's best multiplayer shooters it became a precautionary tale on what not to do when working on a triple-A game. Turns out even EA and DICE have learned their lesson, as both companies have taken many steps in making Battlefront II a better game.

During an interview with The Verge, EA head Patrick Soderlund has stated that the company has learned from the experience and they hope to do better. Some people might view this as too little too late but there have been some genuine improvements to the Star Wars shooter.

Here's what Soderlund had to say:

"We can shy away from it and pretend like it didn't happen, or we can act responsibly and realize that we made some mistakes, and try to rectify those mistakes and learn from them."

For the sake of fairness, EA and DICE have made Battlefront II a much better game now. The progression system has been altered so that it's easier to level up and upgrade your character by simply playing the game, instead of relying on loot boxes. All heroes and villains are also now available from the start, though characters still have special attires that can be unlocked.

Battlefront II didn't start the whole loot box craze in video games but it did try to exploit players to spend money for an advantage. Now that loot boxes are becoming less popular, it looks like EA will try to make things better for their next Star Wars game.
