Duffer Brothers: Opening Of Stranger Things 2 Was Inspired By The Dark Knight

Though the main story of Stranger Things takes place in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the second season started out with another one of the Hawkins Lab kids, Eight a.k.a. Kali. As it turns out, the Duffer Brothers were trying to imitate Christopher Nolan in the opening and said they were inspired by The Dark Knight.

Talking to Vulture, Matt Duffer explained:

"We were definitely going for [a Dark Knight vibe… Some of this stuff happens subconsciously, so I'm sure, yeah, we were ripping off Chris Nolan… we don't usually get to explore that kind of vibe or tone on the show, so I think that's really why we did it."

The Duffers have said several times that the scenes with Kali and her group of rebels was considered experimental when it comes to the show, and the episode has been a source of debate for several fans. Though Episode 7 did give Eleven her push to come back to Hawkins, it was a hard detour to the main story that was happening with Hopper and the kids.

Now that the show has introduced us to the concept of Eleven having "siblings," I'm curious as to how they will factor in on the third season. Honestly I prefer they keep the story to the monsters and the Upside Down because the concept of super-powered humans makes the show feel like X-Men.

Catch Stranger Things 2 on Netflix right now.
