Dragon Ball Super Manga Dramatically Changes Universe 7's Final Six

The Dragon Ball Super manga has actually done a good job in being unpredictable, even to fans of the anime. While the plot beats remain the same, there are little nuances and differences that make reading the manga essential. It also doesn't have any filler, though it's worth noting that some of the anime's slice-of-life episodes were pretty good.

Anyway, the manga is nearing the end of the Tournament of Power arc and the events are playing out much more differently than most expected. Frost eliminated Krillin and Tien early on, something that didn't happen in the anime, and now we have a wildly different final six for Universe 7.

In a surprisingly controversial move, Piccolo and Android 18 were recently eliminated, leaving Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Freeza, Android 17, and Master Roshi of all people. The anime had 18 in a slightly more significant role, so seeing her eliminated and having Roshi take her place was a move that surprised some readers.

Roshi had a few memorable moments in the anime but didn't really play a huge role in the arc, though he did nearly die. Now that he's in the final six, it seems like he will play a much bigger role in the manga. I doubt he will Kamehameha Jiren out of the ring but it will be interesting to see what he can do.

Dragon Ball Super can be read on Viz Media. The anime can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
