Doug Jones and More Cast in What We Do in the Shadows TV Show

You may not recognize Doug Jones without makeup, but he's played various monsters in cinema including The Asset from The Shape of Water and Abe Sapien in Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy. Aside from playing Saru on Star Trek: Discovery, Jones will be working on another television series—FX's adaptation of Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi's What We Do in the Shadows.

According to Variety, Jones has been cast alongside Mark Proksch (The Office), Beanie Feldstein (Neighbors 2), and Jake McDorman (Lady Bird). They will be joining a main cast that already includes Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, and Harvey Guillen.

If I were to make a guess, I think all the new actors will be filling in for characters that were already in the original movie. Jones could very well play the Nosferatu-type roommate Petyr, with Jake McDorman playing the human-turned-vampire Nick. Proksch could also very well play the American version of Stu, the human that the vampires befriend; I have no idea who Feldstein could be, but I'm guessing she could either be one of the vampire's servants, or Viago's ex, "the beast."

Of course, this is all just speculation on my part, and it's possible that they could be playing completely different characters. If this isn't a full reboot, I can imagine that this is just an expansion of the world that was established in the original What We Do in the Shadows movie.

What We Do in the Shadows is expected to premiere later this year on FX.
