With the live-action versions of Aladdin, Lion King and Mulan gaining momentum, Disney is now giving attention to The Little Mermaid. It looks like the House of Mouse has chosen their director and it could be Rob Marshall, according to Deadline. Apparently, the offer has already been made to Marshall and he is going to give his answer after reviewing the script for the film during the holidays.
It seems like people in the company really liked his work on Mary Poppins Returns, which he also directed. Marshall has also worked on Pirates of Carribean: On Stranger Tides, so the director has plenty of experience working with the company. Since the film will essentially be a live-action version of the original, nostalgic fans will definitely eat it up.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is working on the music for the live-action version of The Little Mermaid, along with Alan Menken. Menker wrote the original songs for the animated film, so his presence here is much appreciated. With iconic songs like Part of your World and Under the Sea, it will be hard for the live-action version to top the original.
No release date for The Little Mermaid has been released.
