Coco is another monster hit for Disney Pixar, but the movie is getting a bit panned for having a screening of Olaf's Frozen Adventure right before the movie starts. You'd think with Frozen's popularity, people would be fine with it, but with a 22-minute runtime, a lot of moviegoers thought that it ran for too long.
A Redditor who worked in a theater said that Disney has been sending out these memos to theaters asking to pull the short before Coco screenings. This is what the note said:
Please note that the run of Olaf's Frozen Adventure playing before COCO will end after 12/7. Starting on Friday 12/8 no more Olaf shorts should be up on screen. With the extra 22 minutes of running time back, we would appreciate if you could get in an extra show if possible.
It's still unclear on whether the short was pulled because of the bad feedback, or because Disney originally planned for it to be a limited release. With Olaf out of the way, theaters can probably squeeze in an extra screening of Coco now.
The Frozen short was said to be originally intended as a TV release, but with the franchise's popularity, I have a feeling Disney wanted it as an extra hook to get people to watch Coco. Before release, Coco had been panned for looking too similar to 2014's The Book of Life, which in my opinion, turned out to be the inferior film.
Catch Coco now in theaters.
