Hurray for progressive cartoons! With shows like Steven Universe and movies like Zootopia bringing in a whole lot of mature subject matter to children's entertainment, Disney channel has jumped the bandwagon and has aired the first same-sex kiss in Star vs. The Forces of Evil.
In a clip where Marco and Star are watching a boy band concert, Star takes a moment to observe all the other couples who've started smooching around them, and one of those couples happens to consist of two boys — either that or one of them is a girl with a boy cut.
I think it's great that they added this scene because it helps make homosexuality more accepted in the social norm. The Daily Dot even compares the scene to Captain Kirk and Uhura's kiss from the original Star Trek, which gained a lot of controversy for being the first interracial kiss broadcasted in US TV. Isn't TV great?
Gravity Falls actually had a gay couple with Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durand, but their relationship was only implied onscreen. Kissing actually goes to a whole new level for Disney - that's why it's called first base.
Star vs. The Forces of Evil airs Wednesdays on Disney and Disney XD.
