Disney CEO Bob Iger Had to Fight for Black Panther and Captain Marvel to be Made

Black Panther and Captain Marvel were the first big steps Marvel Studios took to be more diverse, with both films getting praise and hated by certain parts of the fandom. Still, the two characters should be excellent additions to the MCU and future movies should improve upon everything fans didn't like about their solo debuts (unless they're racist/sexist).

It turns out that Disney CEO Bob Iger had to fight for these two films to be made, which Iger revealed in his book The Ride of a Lifetime where he discussed the arguments he made to have these two films made. While some would say otherwise, the arguments were worth it since both movies did make a lot of money, though they weren't the bank-breakers that The Avengers or Avengers: Endgame was.

Here's what Iger had to say (via ComicBook.com):

"I've been in the business long enough to have heard every old argument in the book, and I've learned that old arguments are just that: old, and out of step with where the world is and where it should be."
"We had a chance to make a great movie and to showcase an underrepresented segment of America, and those goals were not mutually exclusive. I called Ike and told him to tell his team to stop putting up roadblocks and ordered that we put both Black Panther and Captain Marvel into production."

Most of us that aren't incels are looking forward to Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2 since they have the potential to be breakout films that expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Personally, I'm hoping that Carol joins the Guardians of the Galaxy since they basically do what she does but for money.

Black Panther and Captain Marvel are now available on Blu-Ray and DVD.
