Director Signs on to Highlander Remake

Chad Stahelski has signed on as the director for the Highlander reboot movie, THRreports. Stahelski is known for his work on John Wick. The new Highlander movie is being produced by Lionsgate Entertainment.

The first Highlander movie came out in 1986 and was directed by Russell Mucalhy. The movie focused on a race of immortal warriors, the "Highlanders", who can only be killed by decapitation. Some Highlanders hunt others in order to become the last living warrior and obtain supreme knowledge and power.

"I've been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school," Stahelski said about the series. "Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can't think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces."

Neil H. Moritz and Peter Davis will be producing the project. Lionsgate has been trying to get the Highlander reboot off the ground since 2008 and gone through several directors in the process. Hopefully this time will stick.

Highlander is a cult classic, though the sequel movie is infamously bad. Hopefully the reboot can recreate the highs of the original franchise and avoid the lows. What do you think? Are you excited for a Highlander reboot?
