The Lord of Destruction is here. The Diablo II: Resurrected release date has just been revealed in a stunning gameplay trailer.

The trailer was dropped during the Xbox/Bethesda presentation at E3 2021 and it opens with Tyrael announcing that evil has returned. He then reveals that a dark figure wanders in the East and that the Lord of Terror must be stopped at all costs.

We immediately get a glimpse at the gameplay and learn about the improvements in the title. Resurrected boasts of up to 4K 60 fps on PC and consoles with cross-progression. The gameplay remains the same and you can still use the original five character classes along with the two introduced in Lord of Destruction.

Not surprisingly, the visuals have been remastered, which is a welcome idea for me with my bad eyesight. There is also an eight player co-op option if you think you can't handle Andariel or Mephisto on your own.

Diablo II was originally released in 2000 with five character classes (Amazon, Barbarian, Necromancer, Paladin, and Sorceress). The expansion Diablo II: Lord of Destruction was dropped the following year with two new character classes the Assassin and the Druid. It is still being cited as one of the greatest games ever made and the remaster is certainly a welcome one.

Diablo II: Resurrected is now available for pre-order which comes with early beta access and a Diablo III in-game cosmetic. The game will be released on Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S on September 23, 2021.
