Details on Pixar's Pre-Incredibles II Short: Bao

The Incredibles II is set to come out this June, and like every other Pixar film, it's going to have a short animated film right before it screens. This time, the short will be titled Bao, and it will actually be Pixar's longest short to date.

This is Bao's official description (via PixarPost):

An empty-nesting Chinese mom gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life. But she must come to terms with the bittersweet revelation that nothing stays cute and small forever.

The short is also described to focus on "the ups and downs of the parent-child relationship through the colorful, rich, and tasty lens of the Chinese immigrant community in Canada." This is probably something entirely relatable to director Domee Shi, who was born in Chine and then moved to Toronto, Canada when she was a young girl.

It's also worth noting that Bao will be the first female-directed short film from Pixar, what with Shi at the helm. Shi was originally an intern at Pixar before she was hired to work as a story artist on Inside Out. She has since worked on movies like The Good Dinosaur, and is also a contributing artist for The Incredibles II. Who knows, maybe in the long run, we might see her helm her own full-length movie.

Bao will screen before The Incredibles II which comes out June 14.
