Destiny's newest expansion, The Taken King, has been a huge success for the game. It brought about much-needed fixes and improvements to the loot system, story, and character progression. It comes as little surprise then, that the number of Destiny's registered users has increased by 5 million over the past three months, to a current tally of over 25 million.
This announcement comes from a financial report by Activision Blizzard, which also says that Destiny had 20 million users in May. The company notes that active Destiny players are playing an average of three hours every day, and that Destiny is the "most watched console game on Twitch."
I'm happy to see Destiny achieve this level of player activity, which is likely due to the awesome new expansion. Hopefully, Bungie will move forward in the future with downloadable content packs in the same vein as The Taken King. With the recent introduction of the new microtransaction store and Halloween event, it seems that the studio's success might stem from their ability to constantly bring new content to the players. Keep up the good work, Bungie.
