Death Note Light Up the New World Announces Voice For Mysterious Shinigami

The new Death Note movie, Death Note Light Up the New World, will feature a beautiful Shinigami this time around.

Previously seen in the revel trailer for the briefest of moments, the new Shinigami is revealed to be Ama. And according to the official website (translated by Anime News Network), the Shinigami will be voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro.

Fans of Death Note mangaka Takeshi Obata will be pleased to know that Shinigami Ama was designed by Obata following the director's request. Ama was previously based on Sidoh, while was created to fit the bill of a seductive and beautiful death god.

I believe this was aptly met with the full white design, those pouting lips, and the shy bedroom eyes. Apart from her beauty, Ama is also known to be the most sympathizing Shinigami in Death Note.

There's also the recently released official trailer, which gives a glimpse of how the new Death Notes came to the world. We also see the new characters in action, a glimpse of Ryuk, and a glimpse of Ama.

The 2016 Death Note movie sees a battle not only of cyber-terrorism, but also the successors of the DNA for Light Yagami and L. A new plot detail that's already in the original Death Note revealed that there can only be six Death Notes at a time in the human world. And since Death Notes are usually accompanied by their respective Shinigami, we may expect to see six in the movie.

I wonder if Ama is one of the Shinigami whose Death Note is on earth. More important question, if she sympathizes with humanity, what was the purpose of sending down her Death Note on Earth?

Death Note Light Up the New World will be shown in Japanese theaters on Oct. 29. While waiting for a worldwide release date, fans can check out the mini-series prequels Death Note New Generation on Hulu on Sept. 16.
