After months of speculation, we finally have our new Nathan Summers a.k.a. Cable in the form of Thanos himself, Josh Brolin. Rob Liefeld, creator of characters Deadpool and Cable, has also commented on the casting, and he seems to think that Brolin would be a perfect fit.
In an interview with Comic Book, Liefeld said:
"Josh Brolin brings both the gravitas as well as the physicality required to bring Cable to life on the big screen! He's an amazing actor and I'm as excited as anyone to see him paired with Ryan Reynolds, Zazie Beets in Deadpool 2!! Cable, Domino and Deadpool people!! It's happening!!!"
Probably one of the biggest takeaways from this is that Brolin will be joining a movie universe that rivals one that he is already pretty active in. In fact, Brolin is probably playing the biggest villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now he's cast as another popular character in a rival franchise.
No doubt, Brolin will be great in the role. He's a spot-on actor who's proven that he can portray great emotion as well as heavy action. He's exactly what the movie might be looking for in terms of a no-nonsense FOIL character to Reynolds' Deadpool. I'm thinking it will play out just like MIB 3 where Brolin played the serious Agent K opposite Will Smith's wisecracking — and sometimes silly — Agent J.
No official release date has been announced for Deadpool 2 but it is aiming for a release early 2018.
