Deadpool 2: Why Stephen Lang Never Auditioned For Cable

When Cable was announced for Deadpool 2, fans had a lot of casting choices they wanted to see. From Michael Shannon to Pierce Brosnan and others, fans had plenty of choices but one that was particularly popular was Stephen Lang of Avatar and Don't Breath fame. Though fans were pleased with the eventual announcement of Josh Thanos Brolin, some still wonder what could have been if Lang had auditioned for the role.

Speaking with Screen Rant, the actor revealed that he never really thought about auditioning for the role.

"No, no, I never auditioned for it and you know, truth be told, I'm fairly Cable-ignorant."

Apparently, he was never a huge fan of the character since he stopped following Marvel comics after the 60's and 70's. Lang praised some of the writers and artists from the past, like Steve Ditko, Jim Steranko, and Jack Kirby but stopped reading comics after a certain point in time.

"Look, my relationship with Marvel Comics goes back to the '60s when – and I'm talking about as a reader, I was right there for the first Spider-Man, I was a Fantastic Four fan, I loved Doctor Strange, I love Jim Steranko, Jack "The King" Kirby, all them, Steve Ditko, you know, I knew who they were and I was reading all that stuff, I will say that it – by the time Cable came around . . . I had kind of moved on."

It's understandable that he moved on since Cable's debut isn't really looked back at fondly. The 90's were a particularly bad time for comic books, which relied too heavily on gimmicks to stay relevant. Cable has become a better character since but as Lang stated, he's moved on from comic books and there's nothing wrong with that.

Fans will be able to check out Josh Brolin's Cable in Deadpool 2/Untitled Deadpool Sequel on May 18.
