Though 20th Century Fox is doing some questionable work with the X-Men franchise, they have definitely hit gold with Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool. For some reason, however, Fox has decided to shake things up with their X-Men-related release dates and has pushed Deadpool 2 forward while pushing back New Mutants.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool2 will be giving up its June 1 release date for a much earlier May 18 one. That pits the movie against the likes of Avengers: Infinity War which comes out May 4, and Solo: A Star Wars Story which is set to release on May 25.

As for The New Mutants, the horror-mutant movie will be delayed over 10 months, with the release date moved from April to Feb. 22, 2019. With Gore Verbinski also leaving the Gambit movie, the film's release date has been pushed from Valentine's Day 2019 to June 7, 2019.

With the Disney/Fox acquisition, I'm curious what kind of shake-ups are going on behind the scenes at Fox. If Bob Iger wants to merge the X-Men and Fantastic Four with the MCU, I think it would be best for Fox to put their projects on hold while waiting for Marvel's new plan on how everything should be connected.

My guess is that they'll decide to reboot everything with Deadpool being a part of the MCU already. It won't be so hard counting that the movie is barely connected to the established X-universe.

Deadpool 2 is now set to come out May 18.
