Deadpool 2 Director Officially Helming Fast & Furious Spinoff Next

David Leitch has proved his action chops with films like John Wick and Atomic Blonde, but he'll be doing his first blockbuster film with Deadpool 2 coming out this May. Turns out, he's doing another blockbuster right after as he's going to be directing a Fast & Furious spinoff movie.

According to EW, Leitch will be directing a Fast & Furious spinoff movie starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jason "The Transporter" Statham. There have been rumors before of Leitch's involvement with the film, but now it looks like everything is set in stone.

Leitch will be working on a script from Furious scribe Chris Morgan, so we should expect this movie to be in the same vein as the other films in the franchise—except that it will have that Leitch flare. With Atomic Blonde proving Leitch's mettle when it comes to modern action, I can't wait to see what he has in store for this spinoff. Then again, we'll be getting another glimpse of it with Deadpool 2.

No release date has been set for this spinoff film yet, but it's said that production is planning to start in Hawaii later this year. With that in mind, we would probably see this movie hitting theaters sometime late 2019.

Catch Leitch's work with Deadpool 2 first when it comes out May 18.
