DCEU Head Geoff Johns Teases New Shazam Comics

Even though a Shazam movie will be coming out in a few years, the character currently has no series in DC Comics. The last time the character had a solo outing was during the backup strips of Justice League, all of which were collected into one hardcover. While the former Captain Marvel joined the League during the New 52, he was out of the group by the end of the Darkseid War storyline and has been missing in DC Rebirth since.

Turns out that might be ending soon, as DCEU head Geoff Johns may have teased a new series for the Big Red Cheese.

On Twitter, artist Gary Frank was asked about his favorite DC project. He said it was the current Doomsday Clock series, but before that, it was the aforementioned Shazam backups with Johns. Soon enough, Johns replied to the Tweet, saying that he must do more Shazam, which got fans excited.

Despite initial fears with the changes made to Billy Batson's character, the New 52 Shazam story was well-done. Initially starting as backup stories in Justice League, all of them have now been collected in one graphic novel and it's really well done. Johns writing for the story is pretty solid and Frank's art was wonderful. A new series from Johns would be welcome, though his busy schedule suggests that he might get someone else to do it after an arc or two.

Shazam will come to theaters on April 5, 2019.
