DCEU has Found Someone to Direct the All-Female Birds of Prey; Harley Quinn set to Return

Wonder Woman has paved the way for female-lead comic book movies, and the DCEU is upping the ante by planning an all-women team-up—Birds of Prey. The movie has already tapped someone to be the director, and Margot Robbie is set to return as Harley Quinn.

According to Deadline, Cathy Yan is currently being tapped to helm Birds of Prey, and the movie is aiming to start production sometime near the end of the year. It's worth noting that Robbie herself will be producing the movie via her company LuckyChap, and Yan was also her personal choice to direct.

Here's a trailer for Yan's film, Dead Pigs:

The script will be coming from Christina Hodson who is also the scribe behind the Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee, and she's also writing the script for the solo Batgirl film.

Besides Harley, we don't know who else will be joining the ranks of the Birds of Prey in the DCEU. The comics have had a mixed roster over the years, but the most popular characters to ever join have been Black Canary, Catwoman, the Huntress, and Batgirl.

With Suicide Squad director David Ayer said to be working on a Gotham City Sirens film, it looks like Birds of Prey is the movie that eventually got the greenlight. At this point, GCS would be redundant.

We still don't have an official release date for the Birds of Prey, but the start of production could mean that the movie will come out late 2019 or early 2020.
