Zack Snyder famously stepped down from Justice League's director chair after a personal tragedy, and the movie that got released this weekend was the handiwork of a one Joss Whedon who took over the film after Snyder left. The movie is a far cry from the style that Snyder has introduced to the DCEU so far, and a lot of fans have agreed that they want to see Snyder's original cut of the movie.
Over 32,000 fans have signed the petition on Change.org, and they want Snyder's longer cut of the film which includes Junkie XL's original score.
"Justice League is the culmination of the alien's story and the beginning of a new chapter in the DC Extended Universe. Fans have been waiting for years, while others have waited decades for the film to finally arrive on the silver screen. The 2hr runtime is disrespectful towards Zack Snyder's vision and towards the fans who have waited for more than a year to see the alien's story come to an end."
Warner Bros. has set some kind of precedent for this kind of thing, having released the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice – Ultimate Edition with a significant number of scenes cut from the theatrical edition of the movie restored. However, Suicide Squad, another movie where much of the director's original footage was excised and rearranged for the theatrical cut, received no such restored edition."
If you've loved what director Zack Snyder has done with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, I don't think you're going to enjoy the tone and feel of Justice League very much. Though the movie does take a step in a lighter direction, you can't help but feel that it's more Whedon's work than Snyder's. No offense to Danny Elfman as well, but I actually liked what Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL did with the music for BvS and I wanted to see it return in Justice League.
It was said that WB insisted on a runtime close to two hours for JL, and this is probably what lead to a lot of cuts from the movie. There was supposed to be more backstory for Cyborg and the Flash, and we were supposed to see more of Atlantis, what with Willem Dafoe's Vulko character getting cut.
Will we get to watch Snyder's version of the movie? Hopefully this petition gets something done. Though Snyder's entries may not be for everyone, I actually enjoy the more mature tones and ambition that his movies have had.
