DC Fans Start Fundraising Page To Help Send Bronx Schoolchildren To Black Panther Screenings

There's been some tension between the DC and Marvel fanbases lately. Earlier today word came out that a group of angry DC fans have started planning to sabotage Black Panther's score on Rotten Tomatoes, and the headline's sparked another Marvel vs DC war between fanbases on Twitter.

However, while the war goes on, it seems like another group of DC fans is busy raising money so that they can help send Bronx children to cinemas to see Black Panther.

A GoFundMe page for the fundraising effort was organized by Comic Book debate, a comic news and discussion website. Though the site's editors Zayyan and Sheraz Farooqi have tagged themselves as "DC super fans" the two believe that upholding diversity and representation is far more important than quarrelling over preferences for any particular franchise.

Black Panther is an important film not only because it's Chadwick Boseman's first standalone film as T'Challa, but also because it's Marvel's very first all-black comic book movie.

The two started the fundraising event as a response to Frederick Joseph's #BlackPantherChallenge, and have raised $1965 out of its $5000 goal within 9 days of its inception. Here's what the two wrote on the GoFundMe page description:

"Lifelong fans of superheroes, brothers Sheraz and Zayyan know the impact these heroes can bring to children of all ages. While being DC fans at heart, they realize the impact that Black Panther can have on our society. Black Panther is an event unlike any other that gives people of color, most importantly, children of color as chance to see themselves as the main hero. Using their platform of ComicBook Debate, Sheraz asks for everyone to help pitch in and take a great group of kids to see this monumental film."

Though some might be busy warring over each other, this fundraising effort is proof that sometimes comic book fans can come together to support a good cause.

Black Panther is set to premiere on February 16, 2018.
