David Ayer Possibly Dropped From Gotham City Sirens; Is The Movie Still Happening?

SDCC 2017 saw the announcement of several DCEU films that will be coming out down the line, but David Ayer's Harley Quinn-led Gotham City Sirens was absent from that list. The project has actually gone quiet recently, and it's possible that Ayer will no longer be involved with the film.

According to Mashable, Ayer "won't ultimately be part of [Warner Bros.'] plans," which already puts some doubt over Gotham City Sirens happening. Representatives of Ayer have denied that he's off the project, but Ayer's comments during a Comic-Con panel may hint at some anger toward the studio.

He says:

"I don't think people realize the situation filmmakers face… [Bright] isn't like, some bullshit standard issue studio PG-13 movie. I was able to do some real shit here."

By "bullshit" movie, did he mean, Suicide Squad? Though the movie did make a lot of money, it was undoubtedly a critical bomb, so it's possible WB might not be so keen on giving Ayer another project of his own. Then again, Ayer was said to have been given only six weeks to write Suicide Squad, and the movie was said to have been meddled heavily by the studio who hired someone else to edit the movie.

Is Gotham City Sirens still happening? I certainly hope so, but if things don't smooth out with Ayer, we can probably catch Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn returning in Suicide Squad 2.

Ayer's Bright movie looks cool though. It comes out on Netflix Dec. 22.
