Dark Horse Brings Final Fantasy Ultimania Books To The West

It took a number of years, but Dark Horse will be releasing the Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive next summer. The first of three volumes will detail the process of how the first six Final Fantasy games were conceptualized and made. Expect the last two volumes to detail how the other games were made.

Officially licensed in the states for the first time, the Ultimania Archive will have plenty of concept art, process pieces, and notes on what made each game special. According to Dark Horse, there will be over 300 pages of content, so this is a must-have for fans of the acclaimed JRPG series. Each volume will be packaged in a lovely hardcover, which should look good beside some of the similar books Dark Horse have released over the years like the Hyrule Historia.

The first volume focuses on the first six Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy I, II, and III came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), while IV, V, and VI, were in the upgraded Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). This means that the next volume will start covering the PlayStation era Final Fantasy games, which should resonate with a lot of modern gamers.

Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive Volume 1 comes out on June 2, 2018.
