The Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich has already been cast to play the young Han Solo in the upcoming film centered on his character, but before he landed the role, Disney reportedly saw 2,500 actors for the Star Wars role famously portrayed by Harrison Ford, and according to Daredevil star Charlie Cox, he was one of them.
Cox, who is getting ready for his off-Broadway role in Incognito, told THR that he believes that he auditioned for the role of the young Han Solo:
"I had gone to an audition — one of those things that are super secretive and they don't tell you, but I'm pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot— and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren't you looking at me?' I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind. I never got invited back, probably because they couldn't figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot."
Since he plays a blind lawyer/superhero in Marvel's Daredevil series on Netflix, it's understandable that the British actor had issues making straight eye contact with the casting director.
Charlie Cox wasn't the first actor to describe the experience of auditioning for Han Solo. Actors Dave Franco and Miles Teller confirmed that they've auditioned for the role. Jack Reynor and Taron Egerton were also rumored to be auditioning for Han Solo, but Egerton denied it. Alden Ehrenreich ultimately landed the role, but a lot of fans didn't seem to happy about it. Although I think Cox is a great actor, it's hard to imagine him playing Han Solo.
The film, expected to be titled Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, will be directed by The Lego Movie directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord, and it set to release in theaters on May 25, 2018.
