Daredevil Showrunner To Write Akira Script For Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. has been developing the live-action adaptation of the classic anime AKIRA for years, and according to THR, the studio has hired Daredevil Season 2 showrunner and writer Marco J. Ramirez to write a fresh script for the Cyberpunk film. Ramirez was also the writer on FX's series The Sons of Anarchy.

The adaptation, which had been in development hell sine Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the manga in 2008, will be produced by Andrew Lazar (American Sniper) and Leonardo DiCaprio's shingle Appian Way. The closest the project came to getting made was in 2012 when Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter were in various stages of dealmaking. Jaume Collet-Serra was going to direct when the project was cut, and the Vancouver production closed due to casting, script and budget issues.

Will Ramirez help finally bring this project to life?
