Daredevil: Deborah Ann Woll Wants Karen Page’s Past Explored

Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page is one of the more interesting characters in the entire Marvel Netflix-verse. Her past has been constantly teased since the first season of Daredevil and she played a vital part in The Punisher. Though she'll never come back in the comics, Page has been an integral part of the Daredevil mythos and Woll is hoping the character's past gets explored in Daredevil season three.

Speaking with Collider, Ann Woll discussed how the character's past has been teased and that it should finally be explored. Ann Woll also discusses Karen's pushy nature and how it can be a strength, not just a weakness or an annoyance.

"Definitely her past. We've been hinting at it, and I hope that we eventually unwrap that candy. That's cool to me. Really, my favorite thing to work on with the character is that doggedness and pushiness. Karen is pushy, and I like that. I like it in a female character because I think it's a quality that we historically have disliked in women. I think it can be a strength, as well as a weakness. It can be one of those wonderful, complex aspects of her. She won't let things go, even if it gets her hurt, or if it gets someone else hurt. She's out there, she's gonna get the truth, and she can't stop thinking about it or let it go, and she never will. That's a really fun part of her personality to play with."

It's not yet clear if her past will be as dark, or darker, than her comic book counterpart. The few hints that have been revealed suggest that Frank Miller's influence has been a big part of it since no other writer has really delved into her past. Kevin Smith directly referenced Miller's run when he wrote an arc for the comics, which led to her inevitable death.

Obviously, Karen has been more important in the Netflix-verse than she ever was in the comics. While her past will eventually be uncovered, it's too early to tell if the third season of Daredevil will do that, especially with a focus on Born Again.

Daredevil season three is slated for a 2018 premiere in Netflix.
