Damnation Will Finally Get Reprinted

For years, Magic: The Gathering fans have been anticipating the reprint of the Damnation card since its release in Planar Chaos back in 2007. Now, they won't have to wait any longer. It's about damn time! Wizards of the Coast just announced that they're bringing it back in the Modern Masters 2017 Edition.

Adam Prosak of WOTC recalls that they originally planned to reprint Damnation in From the Vault: Annhilation, and they also considered it for Magic 2015, but the dominance of Mono Black Devotion decks back when Theros was in Standard caused them to pull out the card from M15. They also considered to release Damnation in Modern Masters 2015, but ended up not reprinting it.

"When Modern Masters 2017 Edition started design, I had a chat with Sam Stoddard, the lead designer, and insisted that he put Damnation in the set," Prosak recalls."Fortunately, he was on the exact same page, and it was on his radar as a high-priority card."

Prosak went on to reveal that there are a few mass removal cards in the set, but there are other cards that fit the themes of the set more than Damnation such as Supreme Verdict, which didn't make the cut since it's too similar to Damnation's effect. "Damnation needs to be in a Modern Masters set, and needs to be printed regardless of set themes," he says.

Right now, Damnation is worth about $55 USD but that will likely go down following the reprint announcement.

So what do you think about the reprint of Damnation in Modern Masters 2017 Edition?
