'Creed' Director Ryan Coogler To Direct Marvel's 'Black Panther'

Marvel has officially confirmed that Fruitvale Station and Creed director Ryan Coogler will direct Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman.

"We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family," said producer Kevin Feige. "The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.' Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we've found the perfect director to bring T'Challa's story to life."

This announcement confirms that Coogler will not have time to direct the sequel to Creed, which MGM is trying to release in theaters on November 2017.

Black Panther will make his debut in this year's Captain America: Civil War before appearing in his solo film. Kevin Feige referred the film as a "big geo-political action adventure," and it's aimed to feature a primarily black cast. It would be interesting to see how the 29-year-old filmmaker would create this film after seeing his stellar work with Creed.

Black Panther is scheduled to hit theaters February 16, 2018.
