Colin Trevorrow Hints at Returning Legacy Characters for Jurassic World 3

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom gave us the return of Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), and it's possible that we may be getting an appearance from other legacy characters in the upcoming Jurassic World 3.

Talking to MTV, director Colin Trevorrow opened up about bringing Goldblum back, and hints that he may want to give Laura Dern's character Ellie Sattler a film where she is the main legacy character in focus. This is what Trevorrow said:

"We felt like this was Malcolm's return. This was his... let him have his moment. I feel that way about everyone, especially Laura [Dern], in that she never got to have her own movie. That identified as being something that's important. I feel like this moment with Goldblum, because he had this very clear set of ethical questions that he was able to pose for everyone, we just wanted to put the spotlight on him."

When also asked about how fans would feel cheated if they didn't see the legacy characters come back, Trevorrow also expressed:

"I totally agree with that. I would feel robbed too, yeah."

Though Ian Malcolm didn't really do much in Fallen Kingdom besides talk in a courtroom, I think his character was essential in bookending the movie and presenting to us the main theme of the film. It's not the cameo that everyone wants, but I think it's still a cameo that makes sense.

I wouldn't know how they would manage to bring Alan Grant or Ellie Sattler in the series, but I do agree that at least a small cameo would be great—it is what looks to be the final film in the franchise after all.

Jurassic World 3 is set to come out June 11, 2021.
