Cloud Will Try Too Hard to be Cool in Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake is hoping to strike a balance between pleasing nostalgic fans who have fond memories of the original and introducing the story to newbies who have always been curious about Cloud Strife's iconic adventure. However, they are making changes to the settings and characters, with fans already enjoying the new "thirsty" Jessie, while the developers already confirmed new areas that we will be able to explore that weren't in the original.

Seems like Cloud is also going through some changes, as Inside Final Fantasy VII Remake Episode 2 has confirmed some interesting things about the ex-SOLDIER who was actually never in SOLDIER (spoilers). The character's arc is about how his past was a lie due to his memories being messed with and they're really going to lean into that by having Cloud try too hard to be cool, according to Kazushige Nojima.

"I have gone much deeper into the inner psychology of Cloud...In the original I depicted him as a cool and stylish character. However, this time, he can miss the mark and be a little cringe-worthy at times. His cool facade can often slip. Because he wants people to accept him and respect him, he puts on a front. So when he doesn't know something he just goes 'Not interested.' I have written him in a way that makes you think that 'not interested' might not be a cool thing to say, but can sometimes be a bit lame."

Cloud trying too hard to be cool could be seen in the Final Fantasy VII Remake Demo when Barret asks him what's his age and the delusional hero tells him he was First Class in Soldier. It's clear that they want Cloud to think that he's hot shit and seeing his downfall before Tifa helps him rebuild his memories later on.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will be coming out on April 10 for the PS4.
