Clark Gregg Talks Agent Coulson's Role in Captain Marvel

After Captain America: The First Avenger, the MCU will be doing another period piece with next year's Captain Marvel. The film is confirmed to have many returning characters in the MCU, and one of them is Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Agent Coulson played by Clark Gregg. Gregg gives us a little clue on what to expect from his character in the film.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Gregg explains:

"He's a bit of a new guy in S.H.I.E.L.D. … He's a lot younger. It's the earliest we will have seen him, so when he says, ‘Mr. Stark, this isn't my first rodeo' in Iron Man, this is maybe the rodeo he's talking about."

Seeing that he's one of Nick Fury's more trusted colleagues during Marvel Phase One, I would guess that Coulson in this movie will also be working closely with a younger Nick Fury as well. We've already seen set photos of 90s-era Nick Fury, but we have yet to see what Coulson would look like in the film.

Besides Coulson, we also get confirmation that Guardians of the Galaxy's Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser) has also been cast in the film. We could see the origins of Ronan play out in this movie, but I'm also curious if we might see a young Yondu as well. Yondu's species, a Centaurian, is one of the modified beings by the Kree, in the comics at least.

Captain Marvel hits theaters March 8, 2019.
