Christopher Nolan Will Not Direct James Bond 25

Now that Daniel Craig is returning to the James Bond role for a fifth and possibly final film, there have been rumors that the critically acclaimed Christopher Nolan would direct the installment. It would be a decision many fans of the 007 franchise would approve of since the director's Dark Knight trilogy was clearly inspired by the series of films.

Unfortunately, that won't be happening, as Nolan has "categorically" ruled himself out as the film's director.

Speaking with BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs (via Digital Spy), Nolan explicitly stated that he would not be the director for the next film. Nolan even joked about how every time there is a new director planned for a 007 film, he is always brought up. Considering how most of his movies are, it's hard to blame fans for feeling this way.

"I won't be the man. No, categorically. I think every time they hire a new director I'm rumoured to be doing it."

This is pretty unfortunate since Nolan's style would be perfect for the current James Bond series, especially since its the 25th film overall. Everyone has praised the grittier style of 007 films that the Daniel Craig era has presented, with some of them being the best entries in the franchise's existence. Who doesn't love Skyfall? Spectre was pretty bad though.

However, Nolan did give fans some hope by saying that he would love to direct a James Bond movie in the future. Just not right now.

"I'd love to make a Bond film at some point and I think those producers – Barbara and Michael – they do a tremendous job and Sam Mendes has done a terrific job the last couple of films, so they don't particularly need me. But I've always been inspired by the films and would love to do one someday. I love the character, I love the films, I've been very inspired by the films as anyone who's seen my films will find embarrassingly obvious. But you'd only take on a franchise like that if you could bring something completely new to it, if that were needed. And I think at the moment they're doing fantastically well without me."

James Bond 25 is slated for a November 8, 2019, release.
