Chris Pratt To Voice Garfield in An Upcoming Animated Movie: Release Date, Synopsis, and More

From Star-Lord to the iconic orange lasagna-loving cat—Chris Pratt is confirmed to voice Garfield in an upcoming animated film by Sony Pictures. This was confirmed in an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter.

The Guardians of the Galaxy actor also confirmed this when he posted a picture of Garfield on his official Instagram account. This is not his only upcoming voice acting role, as many people shared mixed opinions of his being the voice of Mario of the forthcoming “Mario” movie, which is slated to be released in 2022.

The new upcoming Garfield animated movie still has no official release date. Although this is the case, people online are already sharing opinions similar to the impact on Pratt’s confirmation as voicing Mario.

Many long-time Garfield fans expressed that many potential voice actors would fit in voicing this iconic comic character. Some even expected that the new movie would still feature the same voice as the previous Garfield movies, Bill Murray.

Before becoming a household name in movies and television, Garfield was a comic strip character of the same name created by Jim Davis. The strip has been released in published in hundreds to thousands of newspapers around the world. The character’s popularity has paved way for other media such as comic book compilations, books, cartoon series, and animated movies. The first Hollywood movie, Garfield: The Movie, premiered in 2004 and had a box office gross of USD $203.2 million. This was then followed by its sequel Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties that premiered in 2006.

Chris Pratt’s rise to fame began in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, playing Andy Dwyer. However, he rose to instant fame when he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe and played as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.
