Chris Hemsworth Is Open To Playing Thor After Avengers 4

2011 introduced us to Chris Hemsworth as the MCU's Norse God of Thunder, and 2019 will mark his last contractually obligated appearance as Thor. As it turns out, Hemsworth is still very open to playing Thor after the fourth Avengers movie and we might see him in pop-up in when Phase 4 kicks in.

Talking to IGN, Hemsworth reflects on the end of his contract and how he initially felt with the character:

"I've just, literally two days ago, finished Avengers 4 and that's my contract – my preexisting contract is done now, so it's kind of like, ‘Wow, that's it.' Two or three films ago I was like, ‘Okay, a couple more.' I was enjoying it but I was like… I felt a little restricted. And after this last experience with Taika, and actually these last two Avengers, I feel like we've reinvented the character a number of times – even in these next two, he evolves again, and you don't get that opportunity often in a franchise. So I definitely feel a renewed sense of excitement and enthusiasm, and more so than ever, I think."

With Thor: Ragnarok being more open to improvisation from the actors, it really did seem that Hemsworth was given the opportunity to make the Thor character more of his own. When it comes to appearing in Phase 4, Hemsworth says:

"If I had the opportunity to do it again, I think I'd love to. I also think there's an appetite for it now, or there's a far greater range of possibilities of where he can go now, what he can do, just because we've kind of broken the mold a bit."

If Phase 4 were to have an entirely new roster, I'm fine with seeing Thor take a backseat and play the part of Anthony Hopkins' Odin for a while. The MCU might want to keep exploring some Asgard-related stories, and having Thor pop-up every now and again would be fun to watch.

For now, we should expect Chris Hemsworth to make an appearance as Thor in Avengers: Infnity War coming out May 4.
