There's a lot of discussion on Chris Evans' role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe now the Hollywood celebrity's contact with Marvel is coming close to an end.
Though the star has become a Marvel big screen staple, many wonder whether Evans has any intention of trying to renew his contract with the studio. After all, the actor had already previously expressed some intention to retire from the franchise right after the second Avengers: Infinity War installment.
Now, in an interview with USA Today Evans speaks up about what passing on Captain America's shield might mean to him if his contract with Marvel wouldn't be renewed.
"I'd be lying if I said it wouldn't be hard for me," said Evans. "But the passing of time and the passing of torches is part of the experience. Nothing lasts forever. There's a beauty in that departure, even if it can be sad at times. It's also joyful."
"I've had a great run," the actor continued. "Superheroes are reinventable entities, like Batman or even James Bond. These movies find new incarnations and new ways to tell the story. I am all for it. However they want to proceed after ‘Avengers 4,' it's really up to them. I walk away with no regrets and endlessly thankful."
It's true that nothing lasts forever, however it would be difficult to imagine an MCU without Evans as Captain America. Would the studio make a reboot for the character? How would Marvel close the cinematic story line of Steve Rogers? Would Bucky Barnes or Sam Wilson take on the suit and the shield? We'll have to wait and see.
Evans will return to the big screen as Captain America in Avengers: Infinity War which premieres on May 4, 2018 and its sequel which is scheduled to hit cinemas on May 3, 2019.
