Chloe Grace Moretz Cast in Live-Action Adaptation of The Little Mermaid

Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass,Hugo) is set to play Ariel in the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid being produced by Working Title and Universal Pictures. The film will based on the story by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, and the studio is in talks with Richard Curtis (Love Actually) to re-write the script. The studio hasn't revealed what changes they'll make from the original story, but it will surely follow a mermaid who wishes to become human after falling in love with a man she saved from drowning.

Earlier this year, we learned that Sofia Coppola was attached to direct the film but left due to creative differences with the studio. The studio hasn't announced a new director to replace her. Variety reports that "Coppola's unwillingness to go with a star like Moretz was her impetus for parting ways with the project." The report goes on to say that the studio "felt it was smarter to take one more pass at the script with a top-level writer in order to attract the type of talent they want for the project."

I think Chloe Moretz is a fabulous actress. I enjoyed every film she's been in, but it's hard to imagine her as Ariel. Hopefully, she'll show us a fresher version of the character that we'll love.

Do you think Chloe Moretz would be great as Ariel in The Little Mermaid live-action movie?
