5th Wave is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi film based on the book series by Rick Yancey. Chloë Moretz plays a teenage girl named Cassie, who is forced to survive after the world has been decimated by four waves of deadly extra-terrestrial attacks. Her quest is to find and save her younger brother from the aliens. "As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie teams up with a young man who may become her final hope – if she can only trust him."

It looks like the movie is trying too hard to follow the YA trend, but as much as I admire Chloë Moretz as a talented actress, I think this film is going to suck. This kind of reminds me of Stephenie Meyer's The Host with The Last of Us post-apocalyptic vibe. And maybe a dash of Independence Day, but it's sad that the trailer doesn't actually show any aliens.
The supporting cast includes Liev Schreiber, Maika Monroe, Nick Robinson, Maggie Siff, Maria Bello, and Ron Livingston.
5th Wave was directed by English filmmaker J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed) from a script written by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich). The film will be released in theaters on January 15, 2016.
