Deathtroopers were probably one of the coolest additions in Rogue One despite not being able to do that much in the movie. These special-ops troopers proved to be more competent than their brothers in white, and it looks like they'll have a highlight in the Blu-Ray when it gets released. So from the get-go, the concept artists wanted to create something new, but at the same time make the troopers blend seamlessly into the universe. It's interesting how they got inspiration from McQuarrie's original concepts to work on the Deathtroopers.
Fun fact: Boba Fett was originally envisioned to be a special type of stormtrooper, that's why the original design for his armor was white. It was only in the later parts of development that they decided to make him a bounty hunter independent from the Empire.
I absolutely love these guys. Even if they didn't do much in the movie, you can just imagine them wreaking all kinds of havoc in the expanded universe. Just like Krennic, I think they had some cool action scenes that were cut out of the final movie. Hopefully we get to see some of that action in the Blu-Ray.
The Rogue One Blu-Ray comes out on April 4.
