Check Out Bumblebee As A VW In New Set Photo

After seeing him as numerous sports cars in Michael Bay's Transformers movies, fans of Bumblebee can finally see the autobot as a classic VW Bug. This is what he transformed to back in the old cartoon series, so it's nice seeing the character go back to his roots. While this doesn't ensure instant success for the film, it's a decent enough start.

Unlike the most recent Transformers movies, which like to flip flop from the past and present, Bumblebee will be firmly set in the past. The prequel is set in 1987 and shows how he first ended up on Earth, prior to his meeting with Sam Witwicky from the first film. Whether the film shows us why he can only speak through radio is a whole other question.

Here is a synopsis for the film's plot:

The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Bumblebee is currently slated for a December 21, 2018 release date. The film stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny.
