Charlie Cox: Daredevil Season 3 Will Follow Frank Miller's 'Born Again' Storyline

[THIS ARTICLE SPOILS THE ENDING OF THE DEFENDERS SEASON ONE]

Nobody was surprised that Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock miraculously turned out alive after the ending of The Defenders, and he'll be returning for the third season of Daredevil. Like the first season, it looks like season three will be exploring yet another DD storyline from Frank Miller—Born Again.

Talking to THR, Charlie Cox explains:

"That's such an amazing story. Everyone who loves Daredevil loves Born Again. You can't not. And if that's the case, then the implications of that would be very exciting to me. That would be great. Having said that, I know we don't tend to follow any story blueprints too closely, because if you do, then you become a foregone conclusion."

There may be elements from Born Again, but I'm sure there will be elements that are unfamiliar and surprising and different in order for the show to be compelling to fans who know the comics very well. If we start making Born Again page-for-page, then the people who have read it and loved it — the hardcore fans — they won't have too much drama."

As you can expect from Miller, Born Again was probably one of the darkest DD stories out there which has Matt Murdock as he tries to keep his life together after The Kingpin finds out his secret identity. It's also worth mentioning that the story also has Matt and Foggy's old secretary Karen Page turning into a heroin addict, shooting dirty movies in Mexico, and selling out Matt's identity for more drugs. It's crazy.

Also, the crazy super soldier from Jessica Jones, Nuke, shows up in this story.

The way the show is now, it probably won't end up as dark as the comic, but I can see Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk finding out Matt Murdock's identity and ruining his life as a result. He was pretty amazing in his small appearance in season two.

There's still no release date for Daredevil season three, but you can catch him kicking butt in The Defenders which is now airing on Netflix.
