Despite being a critical bomb, Netflix's The Witcher has grown to be one of the biggest shows from 2019, and the property is getting more and more recognition by the day. Just in, news has it that Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski has struck a new deal with CD Projekt Red, the developers of the wildly popular Witcher games.
As per Newsweek, Sapkowski and the game developers have agreed to "new rights" that would set the "framework for future cooperation between the two sides." While nothing official has been confirmed, this certainly means more Witcher games in the future. After the success of Wild Hunt and the Netflix show, it would make sense for CDPR to jump in on the chance to develop more games in Sapkowski's world.
CDPR president Adam Kicinski had this to about the studio's new deal with Sapkowski, "We've always admired Mr. Andrzej Sapkowski's works—a great inspiration for the team here at CD Projekt Red… I believe today marks a new stage in our continued relationship."
Admittedly with Game of Thrones gone, The Witcher managed to fill a void that's been left for the adult/fantasy genre. The writing could use a bit of brushing up, but the world is definitely interesting, and there's so much room for expansion, not just for games, but for merchandise and other media as well.
We don't know when CD Projekt Red plans to come out with their next title with Sapkowski, but hopefully, we don't have to wait too long. Besides The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, you can catch the TV adaptation of The Witcher now on Netflix.
