CD Projekt Red Announces The Witcher Mobile Game That's Like Pokemon GO

Well, here's a combination no one expected. CD Projekt Red has announced a new mobile game called The Witcher: Monster Slayer and it plays like Niantic's incredibly popular Pokemon GO. This is definitely a mobile game fans didn't see coming but if done well, this could be a cool way to live out your Witcher dreams while walking a few blocks. Shame it had to get announced during the current pandemic but what can you do?

The screenshots of this game's monsters actually look pretty cool, though one has to wonder if combat can be satisfying with a mobile title like this. Pokemon GO succeeded because the main goal was catching monsters, with battling being a secondary feature, albeit one that grew very popular in the years to come. We're sure The Witcher: Monster Slayer will find a way to make this work.

Apparently, the game will also have "rich, story-driven quests" that are inspired by, well, The Witcher. This should make the gameplay more interesting and if anyone can do story-driven quests well, it's the folks at CD Projekt Red. Obviously, the emphasis will still be on combat but giving players a reason to go through these quests is still appreciated.

It seems like the Pokemon GO formula has been the inspiration to many over the past few years. We also have a Harry Potter game that has similar mechanics to this one and even Square Enix copied it for their Dragon Quest mobile game, though that's only available in Japan. Will The Witcher: Monster Slayer be a success? We're gonna have to wait and see.

No release date for The Witcher: Monster Slayer has been announced.
