Thor: Ragnarok Star Cate Blanchett in Talks to Play Lilith in Borderlands Movie

Cate Blanchett has had a penchant for playing ethereal women from Galadriel in Lord of the Rings to Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, and now it looks like she could be attached to Lionsgate's upcoming Borderlands movie.

Variety reports that Blanchett is in talks to play the part of Lilith. In the game, Lilith is the leader of the Sirens, a group of women with special powers. While Lilith was a playable character in the first game, she had been an NPC from Borderlands 2–3.

With Lilith included in the game, I can only imagine who else we're going to see in the film. Are we going to get Handsome Jack? I'm sure some fans will need Mad Moxxi to make an appearance.

Then again, Blanchett is still in early talks for the film. I can imagine some other actress taking over the role for Lilith, but for now, I think Blanchett is a solid choice. If they wanted her character to be more involved, I'd suggest a younger actress who is more willing to run around and do action scenes.

For now, Borderlands has Eli Roth attached as the director with a script coming from Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin. With Roth's penchant for violence, I'm really curious what he would bring to the world of Borderlands. Hopefully he manages to build the world in a way that would be interesting for both gamers and non-gamers.

This is just my personal gripe, but I thought an animation would have worked better for this movie. Again, that's just me.

No release date has been set for the Borderlands movie.
