Captain Marvel Will Return In New Comic Series, Flying In 2017 Before The Movie

The Marvel Universe is expanding once more. This time, the spotlight will be fully on Captain Marvel and the newly announced comic series.

Set to come in 2017, the new comic will relaunch the heroine to give her just enough fame to set the stage for the 2019 movie, The Hollywood Reported confirmed.

Ant-Man artist Ramon Rosanas will be at the helm of the illustration, while the Margaret Stohl will pen the story. Stohl is most known for her Beautiful Creatures, an acclaimed young adult fantasy novel she co-authored with Kami Garcia.

The storyline for the Captain Marvel series will likely take off from the Civil War II narrative. Here, Carol Danvers's alter ego has become world-famous, though she herself hasn't warmed up to the idea yet. And her latest missions will be among the most challenging yet. According to Stohl:

"She's lost a lot of folks that she's loved so she has to cope with that, too. That being said, she still has a job to do as commander of the Alpha Flight. Her latest mission being recruiting and training new cadets (which will give us some fun supporting cast members). It'll also bring with it a mysterious danger that will threaten everything Carol has built."

It's setting a stage for a different kind of drama this time. From the looks of it, Captain Marvel will be between a rock and a hard place, thanks to the events following Civil War II and the rising fame that she didn't seem to ask for. Not to mention that mysterious growing threat that will likely hit her when she's not expecting it.

The Captain Marvel series will likely hit sometime in 2017, though both the comic and movie do not yet have definite release dates.
